About

Hi, I’m Gena, and I am so glad you’re here.

Wellness is a journey, and I’m thrilled, honored, and humbled by the opportunity to join others on their path to becoming or staying well. If you are looking for inspiration to be well and information on how to pursue a healthy lifestyle, you will find both of those things here. Well Woman was created to:

  • Equip women to love Jesus.
  • Enable women to walk consciously.
  • Empower women to be well.

My mission in life is to help others to be well while walking out my own wellness journey. I’m a Christian who holds the additional titles of wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and possibly a few others, so I can relate to the woman who is trying to be their best for the people they love and serve. I work as a family nurse practitioner, so I am invested professionally in helping my patients to be well. My hope is the resources birthed from Well Woman will empower us all to love the Lord, others, and ourselves well. It is this great love that I believe will drive us all to seek health and wellness, and live our best lives.

These images tell a bit about me, and what I enjoy. I am a Texas girl and have spent almost my entire adult life in a growing town in Central Texas called Hutto. We are famous for our hippo mascot, it’s a big deal around here. Come to visit and you will find businesses and homes proudly displaying concrete hippos all over town.

My family and I enjoy traveling, mostly in the U.S., though we plan to venture out of the country more now that our babies aren’t babies anymore. We have an annual ski trip to Durango, CO that we treasure immensely. My husband and my kids have my heart and are the gifts I never knew I needed.

I spend much of my time working, so it’s a good thing I love what I do. I am a proud nurse who is currently practicing as a family nurse practitioner. Nursing is a calling, and I consider it one of the greatest privileges of my life to care for others.

Like any author, I enjoy reading. My love for the Bible and learning all the biblical things was the catalyst that spurred this journey toward creating Well Woman. I’ve spent considerable time, leading small Bible study groups in my local community through church or other organizations, and it has brought me immeasurable joy. I love to read Christian books and my favorite authors include Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, Lysa Terkeurst, and Max Lucado. I do occasionally pick up a fiction book and really love Jodi Picoult.

Health and wellness is more than something I write about, it’s something I pursue passionately myself, between bouts of falling off the healthy wagon. I am the world’s most average CrossFitter, and I enjoy being active with my family and going for walks with my dogs. Did I mention the dogs? We’ve got three (insert face-palm emoji). I really try to eat a healthy diet of nourishing food, and provide the same for my family, and I also have a love of brownies, bread, and chips and dips like nobody’s business. I’m working on it, but the struggle is real.

I could go on, but I think that’s enough. This page is about me, but Well Woman is about you. What I really want you to know is that I see you and I am here for you, offering up what God has called me to share. More importantly, I want you to know that God is here for you with a love like no other. He and I both want to see you be well. Will you let us help you?
